Another good deed that doesn't cost much (except the cost of electricity to run your computer) is the Cancer research project.
I've been running it for more than 1-1/2 years.
They borrow your computer's idle CPU time to crunch numbers to help narrow down possible drug choices for cancer treatment.
The particular cancer they are focussing on is leukemia.
